We are delighted that the Bristol Alliance, the University of the West of England, First Group and Bristol and South Gloucestershire Councils took up Key Transport Consultants’ idea of operating a Christmas shoppers Park & Ride service from UWE’s Frenchay campus, announced in the Bristol Evening Post last November.

The scheme helped ease congestion in Bristol city centre and ensure that Broadmead remained accessible to shoppers from South Gloucestershire during construction of the £500m Merchants Quarter development in the busy Christmas period. UWE agreed to make car park 20 on their Frenchay Campus available free of charge and the route links from there, via the M32, to stops in the city centre.

The new weekend service ran from November to January and plans are already underway to build on the success of the scheme for Christmas 2006.
